doing it

September 28, 2008

since we've been talking about the ways musicians can survive with or without label support lately, i couldn't help but put up a link to this guy. i'm pretty sure he has no major label support, but he's making a name from himself, making a living, and making interesting music. his name is ronald jenkees.

EDIT: i shot ronald an email letting him know i shouted him out on this site. here was his response:

Mike, thanks a ton for the blog post! It's extremely surreal to know that you've actually heard my music and dig what I do. I couldn't have asked for a cooler and more surprising plug on a Sunday afternoon (found out about it yesterday). That made my day.

Working without a label is probably more difficult in some ways because you have to do everything yourself and that can impact your actual music time, but it's also extremely rewarding to be the one personally responsible for all that stuff and getting it done. Right now I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you ever want to shout back or discuss anything music, I'll always be down for that. You guys have inspired me with your music MANY times and I can say without exaggeration that some of your tracks are among my most-played ever.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

-RJ
